The NRA Is A Gun Control Organization

Summary:

When Conservatives think of the NRA, they think of America's defender of the 2nd Amendment. The Democrats and their cohorts in the media are constantly attacking them, causing their membership and donations to go up. They are heralded by many so-called quote "Conservatives" as the last line of defense between the gun grabbing left and the 2nd Amendment.

However, this is the furthest thing from the truth. The fact is, the NRA is responsible for much of the gun control legislation on the books and not only works to undermine the 2nd Amendment, but also profits from gun control laws. As one writer famously quipped, the NRA is to the 2nd Amendment what H&R Block is to the 16th Amendment.

Democrat Support

Many people will be surprised to know that the NRA is not 100% partisan; they have donated to the Democrats in the past, including vulnerable incumbent Democrats, and even helped get Bernie Sanders elected to the US Senate.

Writing Gun Control Laws

One of the most egregious offenses by the NRA was to conceal the fact that they were working with legislators to pass gun control, hid it from their members (who donate to them under the belief that they are fighting to defend the 2nd Amendment), and did not penalize the legislators in their NRA Grades used by their members to make informed decisions at the polls. Here are a few testimonies of people who have been affected by this legislation.

Support For Gun Control Laws

The NRA have also supported, and in some cases helped craft, the following gun control laws:

Quotes

Here are some quotes in support of gun control by the NRA:
"The National Rifle Association has been in support of workable, enforceable gun control legislation since its very inception in 1871." - NRA Executive Vice President Franklin L. Orth, 1968.
“I believe in regulatory methods.... I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons. I seldom carry one. … I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses.” - Karl  Frederick, NRA President,1934.
One asked which kinds of weapons Keene thought should be illegal. Keene answered “fully automatic weapons,” which are already illegal for private citizens. - NRA President David Keene, Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, 28 Feb 2013
"We do not think that any sane American, who calls himself an American, can object to placing into this bill the instrument which killed the president of the United States.” - NRA Executive Vice-President Franklin Orth, Congressional Hearing
"[The 1968 Gun Control Act] as a whole appears to be one that the sportsmen of America can live with" - NRA Executive Vice-President Franklin Orth, American Rifleman
"We think it's reasonable to support the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act. ... We think it's reasonable to expect full enforcement of federal firearms laws by the federal government. ... That's why we support Project Exile -- the fierce prosecution of federal gun laws...we think it's reasonable because it works. ... We only support what works and our list is proud." - NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre , 1999
"The NICS – set up by the permanent provisions of the Brady Act, which frankly should have been called the NRA Act..." - Stephen Holbrook, NRA-ILA, 28 Feb 2018
"I wouldn't stand before you today if I didn't believe, and I couldn't prove, that our common-sense policies can have a more immediate impact on violence, and make more citizens safer, than anything that anyone else is proposing.

So I'd like to speak in response to the President's recent press conferences and news appearances. And please, listen not just for what we've done, but for what more we can all do.

First, we believe in absolutely gun-free, zero-tolerance, totally safe schools. That means no guns in America's schools, period ... with the rare exception of law enforcement officers or trained security personnel.

We believe America's schools should be as safe as America's airports. You can't talk about, much less take, bombs and guns onto airplanes. Such behavior in our schools should be prosecuted just as certainly as such behavior in our airports is prosecuted." - NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, Annual Meeting of Members, 1 May 1999
“The best kept secret is that the national instant check system wouldn’t exist at all if it weren’t for the NRA” - NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, January 2016
"NRA, which created NICS, fought for 20 years for states to comply with existing laws mandating reporting of disqualifying convictions to FBI." - NRA Spokesman Dana Loesch, Twitter, 17 Nov 2017
Lastly, read the following two quotes to see how the NRA once exposed itself:
"We know where the gun control measures that our opposition markets as "common sense" lead, because our opponents have told us time and again. Law-abiding gun owners must recognize that "reasonable regulations" proposed by gun control proponents are nothing but a foothold for greater restrictions on our rights." - Chris Cox, NRA-ILA Executive Director, America's 1st Freedom Magazine, p12
"I wouldn't stand before you today if I didn't believe, and I couldn't prove, that our common-sense policies can have a more immediate impact on violence, and make more citizens safer, than anything that anyone else is proposing". - NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, Annual Meeting of Members, 1 May 1999

We urge all 2nd Amendment supporters to donate real Gun Rights organizations, such as:
